What Exactly is Reflux and What are the Causes of Reflux?
The causes of reflux are not the easiest of things to pin down. If you are a regular sufferer from reflux, you will really need to know what reflux is. This information will let you know what you need to be doing to limit this condition
Acid reflux is a common disorder in today's world. The fact is that this condition has been steadily increasing over the last twenty years, and showing no signs of slowing down. Diet is often a major culprit with this condition but let's take a look first at exactly what reflux is and what are the causes of reflux.
When you eat, the food will travel through the oesophagus and then enters the stomach. Your stomach then releases acids to break this food down. Sounds simple enough doesn't it? A small valve connects the stomach to the oesophagus. When the food has left the oesophagus, this valve closes to prevent stomach acid entering your oesophagus.
The valve is named the LES, Lower Esophageal Sphincter. I propose that we just refer to this as the LES. Firstly because it's easier to read, and secondly and much more importantly, I don't have to constantly type Lower Esophageal Sphincter.
Now the LES can become weakened or damaged, this can occur for a number of reasons. When this happens, the LES is unable to shut completely. This lets the stomach acid leak into the oesophagus. That burning sensation that you get, will come from this acid. This is known as reflux, acid reflux, or heartburn.
What most people will do initially is to turn to antacids to relieve the causes of reflux. Next you may try prescribed medications, and if this doesn't work out, surgery may be the only option. The flip side of the coin is that stronger prescription medications will bring stronger side effects. Any drug that you use is going to have some sort of side effect. You may not be aware of these effects immedietly, but at some point they will come to tthe fore.
Some people claim that there is a link between diet and acid reflux problems. It is commonly known that our diets have become very unhealthy over the years, so this may play a major part. Much of our diet is acidic. Our food is filled with chemicals, additives, sweeteners, and who knows what else. So increasing the amount of fresh vegetables will allow our bodies to decrease acidity.
The amount of food that we consume can also be linked to the causes of reflux. Your stomach produces stomach acid in proportion to the food that it has to break down. So when you eat a large meal, there is going to be a lot more acid floating around in your stomach. With the LES not performing properly, the acid has a direct route to your oesophagus.
This results in further pain, along with the real risk of the acid causing damage to your oesophagus. Changing your eating habits can have a positive effect on this situation. There can be other solutions apart from drugs . Do some research and apply certain methods, and you should be able to eliminate your causes of reflux, and stop heartburn fast

Gastritis produced by acetyl-salicylic acid (ASA) consumption is a common disorder worldwide. The use of probiotics has been proposed to ameliorate different gastrointestinal tract diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, etc. However, little attention has been paid to the use of probiotics in gastric disease. The health-promoting effects ascribed to probiotic strains or fermented foods arise not only from bacteria themselves but also from the metabolites produced during fermentation such as exopolysaccharides (EPS)...
yeah, but how would you feel about ur upper esophageal sphincter?
Added oil or the mayonnaise?

What the Heck is LES? How Can It Cause Acid Reflux?
Tums
My son had Acid reflux and I asked my dr. about testing and she told me that they really don't do testing for acid reflux they try different formulas and try the baby zantac and if that doesn't help their is further testing to check for other problems. The formula that my doctor gave me was Enfamil Nutramigen it is a hypoallergenic infant formula designed for babies who experience colic symptoms due to cow's milk protein allergy. On top of the Zantac and He did so much better.
He did grow out of it..When he turned a year I started him on Regular Milk and he did just fine.
Here are some fact I found online and a link to that page...
'Reflux' Baby Formula
Pediatricians have long advised that parents of infants with reflux thicken their baby's formula. You do this by adding one tablespoon of rice cereal for every ounce or two of formula your baby drinks.
In addition to being thicker, so it hopefully stays down better, babies may be able to drink a little less at a time, since this mixture has more calories than standard formula.
Two baby formulas are available that may help kids with reflux so that you don't have to add cereal on your own. These include Enfamil AR (added rice) and Similac Sensitive RS (rice starch).
Some experts also recommend that children with reflux have a trial of an elemental formula, such as Nutramigen or Alimentum, for a few weeks, in case the reflux is a sign of a milk protein allergy.
Acid Reflux Medications
Even with lifestyle changes and reflux baby formulas, the mainstay of reflux treatments are reflux medications.
These acid reflux medications for children include antacids and acid reducers such as:
Antacids (very short-term use)
Maalox
Mylanta
Histamine-2 receptor antagonists
Zantac
Axid
Pepcid
Tagamet
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)
Prevacid
Prilosec
Nexium
Aciphex
Protonix
Other medications include Reglan, bethanechol, and erythromycin, which are described as prokinetic agents. These medicines can actually help the stomach empty faster, but are not used as much because they tend to have a lot of side effects.
Keep in mind that Zantac is the only acid reflux medication that is FDA approved to treat reflux in infants. Other medications are often used off-label for younger children though, including Axid and Prevacid.
EDIT:: I found another helpful web page that has info on testing for Reflux
Hope it helps

It is not indigestion, it is upset stomach. Indigestion is food not digesting.
