MRSA Staph is a Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria. The microbe causes major skin breakdowns with multiple ailments. There are other designations in the scientific literature for this bacteria based on where the bacteria is acquired by patients. The two primary source types  are community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA), and hospital-acquired MRSA or epidemic MRSA (EMRSA).

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

MRSA Staph presents as a small, red and tender area of skin that is similar to a bug bite or pimple. When the infection spreads, the skin abscess with pus underneath. This further becomes a carbuncle which is larger than an abscess with openings in the skin, or boil (pus-filled area around a hair follicle).

This progression is serious and life-threatening. A practitioner assessment is critical. Additional signs that an infection is developing include the following:

  • Fever
  • Yellow/white or greenish drainage that may have a foul odor
  • Tender red/dark pink area on the surface of the skin that is growing in size

The following symptoms may indicate the infection has spread:

  • Shortness of breath (concern for pneumonia)
  • Shaking chills (infection of the blood or heart valves)
  • Severe headache that is different from your normal headache patterns
  • Extreme weakness and low blood pressure
  • Joint pains accompanying any of the above symptoms

As many as 1.2 million U.S. hospital patients are infected with Staph MRSA each year, nearly 10 times as many as previously estimated. According to APIC officials, 1,237 hospitals and nursing homes responded to the survey, or about 21% of U.S. inpatient health care facilities (Stobbe, AP/Houston Chronicle, 6/07). William Jarvis, former acting director of the hospital infections program at CDC -- found that 34 of 1,000 patients had active MRSA infections, and 12 of 1,000 patients were colonized with MRSA, which amounts to an MRSA incidence rate of 46 per 1,000 patients. (Chicago Tribune, 6/07). More info available at

The Widespead Condition of Acne Vulgaris

Acne vulgaris is the full name of a condition that is more than just common and widespread. Acne is a disease of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands that is manifest with or without tissue inflammation. In fact the common name of pimples or zits applies to acne lesions, and they affect the majority of adolescents as well as a very large number of adults in their mature years. Most of the time, hormonal imbalances, inadequate diet and an intoxication of the system represent among the main factors that generate this skin disease.

The body parts most affected by acne are the face, the neck, the upper back and the shoulders, but in very serious and extended cases, people get acne even on their head skin. The acne symptoms and the aspect of the lesions are the elements that allow the diagnosis of a certain type of acne over another. The severest form is cystic acne which poses challenges both by the pain that accompanies it as well as by the treatment difficulty, since, besides the external pimples, there are cysts present deep into the skin.

Thus, the treatment of acne vulgaris as such differs according to the severity of the condition, not to mention that there are multiple therapeutic approaches too. The complex thing about the condition is psychological dimension of the disease that often affects the sufferer on the long run. If pimples were the challenge of the initial acne outbreak, then acne scarring is are an awful daily reminder that things are not over.

Presently, lots of attempts are being made in the direction of keeping people informed on the options they have for effective acne treatment. Even when you are not able to identify the causes that trigger the condition, the symptomatic treatment supported by a dietary plan works well too. Alcohol, smoking, fat or sweet foods will create digestive toxic imbalances that often influence the skin condition in a negative direction.

Sometimes you can be the specialist and differentiate between what is or isn't healthy. Nevertheless it is important to stay realistic and to avoid trusting all the false myths that have been created around acne vulgaris. The safety and efficiency of certain remedies should be a priority on the observation list. Choose the therapeutic approach because that will work best for your health!
