What Are The Causes Of Heartburn?
If you have you ever felt a mild but irritating burning sensation in your chest after eating dinner it may be you were experiencing heartburn. There are some foods that seem to encourage heartburn but those foods will not trigger an attack of heartburn for everyone who eats them. If you find that eating these foods leads to heartburn you are likely to be predisposed to experiencing heartburn.
The sensation we know as heartburn occurs when the lower esophagus sphincter (LES), a muscle band that should separate the stomach from the esophagus, fails to do its job.
The result is that the stomach contents including some of the gastric acids are able to move upwards causing irritation to the esophagus and this is what is known as an acid reflux.
In normal circumstances the LES does exactly what it is supposed to do and there are no problems but if yours misbehaves sometimes you will experience the discomfort of heartburn.
People who are particularly susceptible to heartburn indigestion will wish it would go away to avoid discomfort after almost every meal. There are some simple and natural remedies for heartburn that can cut down on the number and frequency of the attacks.
Eating a healthy diet is probably the easiest natural remedy for heartburn you can try and it is one that has proved very effective in helping people to prevent it. Avoiding foods that you know may cause you problems and also reducing the quantity of food you eat should help. Rushing over meals may be an additional problem so if you can, take more time over your meals.
There are ways to reduce the frequency of experiencing heartburn and a natural solution like eating fewer spicy foods will help but it is not a comprehensive cure for the condition.
When you experience heartburn think about the different foods you have recently eaten to see if there is a common cause. If you avoid the foods that cause the problem you should suffer heartburn much less in the future.
