We all know that life comes with certain difficulties. In order for people to stay healthy, they need to make good choices. High cholesterol is one problem that is growing and threatening many lives. However, making healthy choices for cholesterol control can change all that. But, you don't have to be afraid of these choices.

They should be welcomed. All that you have to do is compromise a bit. You can still enjoy most of the foods you already eat, with the exception of some. But, they must be prepared differently. What you are aiming for is to avoid the blockage of the arteries.

That's simply because blocked arteries make it difficult for blood and oxygen to get to the heart. If they are blocked, then heart disease develops. So, it is crucial that you know this and take proper action to ensure a long and healthy life. It all starts with the right diet.

Foods that cause an increase in bad cholesterol are meats, eggs, dairy products and such. Those that don't are everything found in nature. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, for instance can be eaten to your heart's content. When it comes to nuts, you have to make sure that they are closest to raw as possible and not salted.

The important thing to keep in mind is that even if you pick foods that are healthy, like organic vegetables, you can still destroy them. Be careful not to fry these foods and take care when preparing them. Many vitamins go up in steam in the cooking process.

Furthermore, if they are fried or covered in butter or cheese, everything is lost. Butter can be used, but sporadically. Frying should always be avoided. Cheese and other dairy products should be low in fat. Instead of cooking an alfredo sauce with cream that has 35% fat, use 2% milk and thicken with corn starch or flour. Or, avoid this altogether and go for a marinara sauce.

There are lots of ways around it. All you have to do is look around, do some research and be creative. In addition to that, you will be able to stumble across some foods that actually lower bad cholesterol. So, you get the best of both worlds. Whether you have been diagnosed with this or whether you are just taking precautions, life is not over. It's only a matter of opening your mind to alternatives. For instance, if you want to have ice cream, choose ice yogurt. You get great taste without the calories or fat.
