A research study conducted at the University of Toronto has shown that a daily probiotics supplement can alleviate symptoms of anxiety disorders for people suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome . This study was produced by a group under the leadership of A. Venket Rao. Their findings were based on a two month study , which demonstrated a significant decrease in the subjects anxiety symptoms .

Are you wondering about the relationship between probiotics and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ?  It seems that subjects with CFS are also often afflicted with digestive disorders and these disorders are frequently connected with a decline or near absence of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract which serves to control populations of toxic bacteria. That bad intestinal bacteria has already been linked with an increase in mood disorders and depression , and academics feel that the way we behave could be a result of bacteria levels .  Probiotics supplements are  naturally sourced live bacteria - such as Lactobacillus or Bifidobacteria. Probiotic supplements help to ensure the balance with good bacterial or beneficial intestinal flora. One again it's shown that intestinal health has far reaching overall health implications.

There is a connection between probiotics and chronic fatique syndrome and it leads to good intestinal health.

This research was conducted on people suffering from CFS - Chronic fatigue syndrome, which exhibits many symptoms, including ongoing fatigue- and in about fifty percent of the cases - anxiety, sleep difficulties and depression . Because of a well documented correlation showing that digestive issues were not uncommon among CFS patients, probiotics were indicated as a possible treatment course and showed that after two months of probiotics use , the subjects in the study showed improved results in dealing with disorders such as anxiety and depression .

The subjects who took the probiotics each day had higher levels of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria and this correlated with a significant decrease in anxiety symptoms in the group. These patients also demonstrated digestive improvements such as a decrease in inflammation, bloating and gas. The researchers have published their findings in the journal -"BioMed Central".

If additional research supports the findings from this study, it will be very positive news for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients.  Unlike medicines , which can bring about a long list of unwanted side effects, probiotics could be a safe and easy alternative.  "The findings are huge," said study co-author Alison C. Bested, who went on to point out the test particpants felt calmer and were coping better with their condition , slept better and feeling less anxious .
