The family unit is very different now than it was many years ago, and this makes managing stress at home all the more important and challenging. Families that can work together in the home and can also enjoy each others' company even when there is the potential for conflict will be able to use these techniques to relieve stress that may occur. The importance of open communication and actively listening to the concerns of others cannot be over emphasized. If one member of the family is having difficulty expressing their feelings, then it is even more important for the other members to help this person by listening and being open to a discussion about their concerns. Unexpressed hurts and negative feelings can cause a great deal of damage to relationships, and while one person may not feel comfortable sharing their feelings with the others, it is needed for managing stress within a large family.
