You need to cut it in half and scoop out all seeds. then - shred it with a fork - it will come apart in shreds. or, if you want to, cook it first - it shreds easier after cooking. but be careful, it doesn't take long to get mushy.

I am not sure of her temperatures. The recommendations in the book that came with my dehydrator are what I use. And there are no real temperatures listed, so I have no idea what they might be, just numbers from 1 to 10.
I did not change settings once I loaded the box.
But any temperature below 200F would not cook the food in less than 12 hours.
