A Young Man Makes an Appointment to See His Family Doctor About His Drinking Problems and His Depression
Larry eventually decided to go and see his healthcare professional about his hazardous drinking. At first, Larry thought he would be able to merely go online, look for some fundamental alcohol info, and decide whether or not he was addicted to alcohol. Not unexpectedly, he discovered more than a few websites that specified some of the typical alcoholism symptoms. That’s the encouraging news. The less than encouraging news, sadly, was that Larry showed signs of a host of these alcoholism symptoms.
Examples of Alcoholism Symptoms
As an illustration, Larry was drinking much more than customary and he was beginning to have more fiery bickering with his spouse. What is more, for the first time in his life he was encountering sleeping problems. Likewise, Larry over and over again felt depressed and on an increasing basis he had been exhibiting less than usual attention to detail at work.
In the same way, he felt highly stressed and more anxious on a day-to-day basis and for the past seven or eight months he exhibited questionable thinking while at work. In view of the fact that Larry manifested all of these symptoms, he was understandably concerned about his irresponsible drinking.
So Larry finally determined that he needed to make a phone call to his doctor and ask for an appointment. In fact, this was challenging for Larry because his healthcare professional was also his parents’ doctor. The basis for his discomfort was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and reveal his irresponsible and hazardous drinking behavior to his family doctor.
When Larry arrived at the physician’s office, he overtly informed the family doctor about the apprehension he had about his hazardous drinking behavior. When the healthcare professional asked what was bringing about this concern, Larry declared that he had gone on the Internet and read about alcohol addiction and especially about alcoholism symptoms. He then outlined all of the alcoholism symptoms that he undeniably thought he manifested.
A Complete Physical Examination and Outpatient Alcohol Treatment
The family doctor told Larry that it was smart of him to concentrate on his drinking problems, he gave Larry an in depth physical appraisal, and suggested that he go into an out-patient alcohol rehab center that was supervised by one of his doctor associates.
Furthermore, when Larry articulated that he had been feeling a sense of melancholy more often, the family healthcare practitioner notified Larry that alcoholism and depression often transpire in the same individual. Consequently, the physician also recommended that Larry obtain therapy to attend to his depression.
The Merit of Dealing With Your Drinking Problems
The physician made it a point to notify Larry that he might not necessarily be alcohol dependent, but that he was plainly drinking in an abusive manner. The healthcare professional then told Larry that the reason he recommended alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to face his drinking difficulties, make sure that he prevented them from deteriorating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to fully stop drinking.
When all's said and done, by successfully treating his drinking difficulties, Larry would be able to get his problem drinking under control and quit the negative cycle of events that could possibly result in alcoholism.
Evidently, Larry did not want to face the thought of enrolling in an alcohol treatment program. Nor was he ecstatic about going to a counselor about his depression. Irrespective of these anxieties, nonetheless, Larry in point of fact felt some emotional relief for the first time in numerous months because in the end he stopped making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind that he needed to do something constructive about his drinking issues.

Every case is different, but I think typically the primary diagnosis would be depression, with alcoholism as a secondary. Many people with depression "self-medicate" with alcohol. Having a dual diagnosis is not uncommon.

I'd suggest you try AA even though you may not see yourself as a real alcoholic.
The AA program works on your whole life - you focus on your behaviour, letting go of your bad stuff and learning to love and forgive yourself. This will help you with your feelings.
Other than that you could try a counseller or life coach to help you unravel whatever baggage you may have weighing you down.
Finally if it is nothing to do with how you see yourself or things that have happened to you, you may have a medical reason for feeling as you do and in that case get yourself checked out with a doctor.
Grape juice does the same exact thing.
